Mr. Smullen is an Accounting Professional with more than 30 years of domestic and international experience in Forensic Accounting, Litigation Support, Private Equity Investment Funds and Portfolio Investments, International Transactions, Due Diligence, Private Placement Memorandums, Financial Planning, SEC Compliance, Public Accounting, Corporate Administration and Governance.
Mr. Smullen has served as an in-house litigation consultant for a national boutique litigation firm that specializes in the resolution of complex commercial disputes. He assisted attorneys in the rapid assimilation of facts critical to the process of commercial dispute resolution and influenced the development of strategies at all levels of the litigation process, including causes of action, damages assessment, pleadings, discovery, document review and analysis, and witness deposition and trial preparation. Mr. Smullen applied his experience and expertise in investigative accounting and financial analysis to matters related to securities fraud, derivative shareholder actions, private equity investment funds, corporate compliance, and contract and tort disputes over unpaid commissions, earn-out payments and lost profits. Mr. Smullen has also garnered experience in dispute resolution as a sole-practitioner CPA and Consultant. Previously, he served as chief financial officer of a private equity investment-management firm.
Mr. Smullen’s practice focuses on commercial, matrimonial, securities fraud, and general forensic accounting and auditing maters.
Mr. Smullen is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Accountant qualified in Scotland and in Canada. He has been awarded the prestigious designation Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Accounting (DABFA) and is recognized as Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, he holds the Certified Forensic Accountant, Cr.FA, and Certified Forensic Consultant, CFC, credentials of the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute, and is a qualified member of the international Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ACIS).
